Amethyst Mine

Unique Visiting Destination in Lapland
Lampivaara Amethyst Mine, located in Lapland, is a fascinating travel destination all year round. The amethyst of Lampivaara fell was born 2 000 million years ago in the bowels of the ancient mountains. There is now a gem mine on the top of the hill that will sustain for the hundreds of years.

Amethyst Mine is open every day between June and September, and in October it is open from Tuesday to Saturday. During the guided tour you will hear the stories of geology and history in addition to the properties of the gems and the uses of amethyst. After the story moment in wooden shelter, each visitor will be able to dig for their own personal lucky amethyst. In the end of the visit there is some time to drop by a small “Amethyst Shop” on site. The amethyst of the area is refined into jewellery and other productions.

There are positive beliefs and fascinating stories about amethyst in many cultures. Leonardo da Vinci always had an amethyst stone on his working desk. He wrote into his diary:  “Amethyst dispels evil thoughts and speeds up thinking” .
Amethyst Mine is located in Pyhä-Luosto National park where private motoring is not allowed but you may have a nice hiking moment when arriving to Amethyst Mine. Closest parking area is Ukkoluosto and walking path follows up to Lampivaara across protected forest. Please take at least 45 min to your walking, that will make your hiking enjoyable.

Entrance tickets you can purchase from Lampivaara café before the tour. For individual travellers there is no need for prior reservation. Guided tours take place every sharp hour:
1.6.-15.8. at 11/12/1:00/2:00/3:00/4:00 and 5:00 pm
16.8. – 30.9. at  11/12/1:00/2:00/3:00 and 4:00
1.-31.10. Tuesday – Saturday at  11/12/1:00 and 2:00/3:00 pm

Tickets: 16 €/adult and 9 €/child (3-12 yrs)
